Huffmaster Mini
Maxwell, California
Gravel
56 miles | 3,000 ft elevation | 41% gravel
The Huffmaster is the second race in the Grasshopper Adventure Series and is a beautiful course set in the northwestern part of the Sacramento Valley just east of the Mendocino National Forest. Its rolling hills, remote backroads and scenic farmland make it a great place for a gravel race.
The Huffmaster Mini, the shorter route of the two course options, is about 40% gravel with a total of 56 miles and 3,000 feet of elevation. The route starts on pavement with long straightaways through farmland until around mile 14 when the biggest climb of the day begins. The next 3 miles will test your legs as you make your way to the top. After a nice descent and some miles through rural backroads, you will finally hit that sweet gravel. Around mile 32, you’ll make the short gravel ascent up Huffmaster Road and then descend down, twisting and turning on dirt until you reach the bottom. The final 10 miles are flat but be prepared for potential headwinds as you make your way back to the small town of Maxwell.
Overall good vibes at this event and a nice post-ride celebration as well. This is a great season opener to wake up your winter legs and get some solid mixed-terrain miles under your belt.
